Choosing a typeface is an opportunity for your website, app or digital product to show personality, be memorable and stand out among its competition. And if you’re just using Open Sans, or other overly popular typeface, you’re missing out on that.
Everyone looks at things but very few people see effectively. Designers must be able to see. Seeing means a trained super-awarness of visual codes like shape, colour, texture, pattern and contrast. These codes make a language of vision, much as words are building blocks for verbal language.
Having done a lot of magazines, I'm very curious how big magazines handle big stories, and I was very curious to see how 'Time' and 'Newsweek' would handle 9/11. And I was basically pretty disappointed to see that they had chosen to show the photo we'd already seen a million times, which was basically the moment of impact.
